Teachers, by submitting an entry for the Competition, you have given consent for the entry to be published free of charge by Mangorolla and the Royal Institution in all media, including television, print and internet, for all purposes as it wishes. We may wish to display entries containing an entrant’s name, age and town or county, in all of the above instances working in line with our Policy, to prevent jigsaw identification of any entrant. We may wish to display entries containing an entrant’s name, age and town or county in the studio and on a website gallery.


    1. Entries are open to be submitted on behalf of students by teachers at UK schools.
    2. To enter the Competition entrants must:
      • Design a road sign showing whether or not self-drive cars are allowed where you live
      • Add your name, age, school and supporting paragraph describing your design
    3. Entry for the road sign is via a photograph sent to roadsign@imascientist.org.uk and once the winner has been decided, we will require the original artwork or a scan.
    4. Entry for the reportage is via a file from the teacher emailed to SDCreport@imascientist.org.uk.
    5. All submissions for the road sign competition must include the entrant’s: name, age, school, and the meaning of their sign.
    6. All submissions for the reportage must include the entrant’s: name, age and school.
    7. Entries must be RECEIVED by 17th February 2020. Late, incomplete or illegible entries or entries with insufficient information won’t be included. We will not be able to return entries.
    8.     9. Mangorolla and the RI acquire ownership of all rights in the winning entry.
    10. All entries will be judged against the following criteria:
      • Design – The entrants must create a road sign design to show if they are for or against self-drive cars where they live
      • Supporting paragraph – The entrants must describe their poster and how they came up with their sign.
      • Reportage – The entrants writing must be accurate. Any video or audio pieces must be clear and include a transcript.
    11. The prize consists of a laser cut version of the winning sign and copies of the Christmas Lectures Trilogy.
    12. The prize is as stated. It cannot be transferred and there is no cash alternative.
    13. We reserve the right to cancel the Competition or change any of these rules at any stage if deemed necessary in its opinion or if circumstances arise outside of its control. Any such changes will be duly communicated. Mangorolla cannot be held responsible for any unforeseen events relating to the cancellation of the Competition.
    14. Mangorolla and the Royal Institute or any other organisation associated with the Competition accepts no liability for any damage, loss, liabilities (including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive damage) injury or disappointment incurred or suffered by you as a result of entering the Competition, not being able to enter into the Competition or accepting any of the prizes. Nothing shall exclude the liability of Mangorolla or the Royal Institute for (i) fraudulent misrepresentation, (ii) for death or personal injury as a result of that party’s negligence, or (iii) any other cause of action which cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law. In no event shall Mangorolla or the Royal Institute and/or any other organisation associated with the Competition’s total liability to you for all damages, losses, or causes of action exceed the price of the relevant prize.
